Final Post on PBS Film Festival

Twenty five films are included in the PBS Film festival, available to view online. There is also a prize awarded to the People' Choice that is determined based on the film that receives the highest number of votes. All of these films are well-made and striking in one way or another. Today, I cast my vote for the winner. The film I chose is embedded below and titled "Honor the Treaties." " Honor the Treaties " is a film based on photographer Aaron Huey's work for Native American rights on the Pine Ridge reservation. Based on his seven-year experience as a photographer on that reservation, the film examines the idea of growth and change in relationship to telling a story.

If there were a second choice, my vote would go to a film titled, "Sin Pais" about one family's complex and emotional journey revolving around deportation.

Finally, I include one of my favorite films titled, "CatCam." It's about an adopted stray cat named Mr. Lee. His family wonders where he goes when he leaves their house. Juerge, an engineer, rigs up a camera to strap around the kitty's neck so that they can all know the answer. In that process, he apparently wins an award for highly creative photography which he, of course, passes on to Mr. Lee (the actual cat photographer at work).
